What is Query?

The term query, or search term, refers to a single word or expression that a search engine user clicks on in an advertisement after entering. Within Google Ads, the search query report shows all records of searches conducted by users, which sometimes differ from the keywords used in bidding. Analyzing query data enables the discovery of high-performing searches while optimizing match types and determining irrelevant keywords to filter out traffic. Enhancing ad relevance, quality score, and budget efficiency occurs when the keyword list is aligned with actual user queries. Continuous query data analysis uncovers ongoing opportunities for growth whilst revising searches that result in overspending.

Analyzing search queries includes adding “best noise-cancelling headphone deals” as a phrase-match keyword, excluding “free” as a negative keyword to filter non-buyers, and creating ad groups from clusters of queries with high conversion rates.
