What Is Average Position?
Average Position was a Google Ads metric that showed where your ad typically appeared on the search results page compared to other ads. A position of “1” meant your ad usually appeared at the top of the page, while a higher number meant a lower spot.
Although Google no longer uses this metric (it was retired in 2019), it was once used to estimate ad visibility and compare performance in search campaigns.
Today, advertisers use metrics like Top Impression Share and Absolute Top Impression Share to understand ad placement.
